After crossing the impressive mountains of the Braulio Carrillo National Park,
you descend into the Caribbean Region lowlands and banana plantations.

Upon entering Puerto Limon you are 55 km/34 miles from Puerto Viejo.
Turn right at the first major intersection (a sign reads Sixaola, Cahuita, Puerto Viejo).
Drive along a gorgeous palm tree lined highway which runs parallel to the sea.

Costa Rica has 20 National Parks, 8 Biological Reserves, 9 Wildlife Reserves, 27 Forest Protected Areas
and 9 Forest Reserves. These comprise approximately 25% of the nation's territory.

Costa Rica ranks 1st. in the world regarding total areas destined to protected Parks & Reserves.

This small country -50.900 sq.km/19.563 sq. miles- has 5% of the world's biodiversity.
It includes 200 species of mammals and over 1800 species of ferns, 1000 types of orchids
and 2000 varieties of trees.
